Remove the rubber stopper from the vial. Add exactly 0.5 ml of distilled water into the vial. Replace the stopper and allow to sit for 10 to 15 minutes at room temperature. Swirl the vial to dissolve the contents until homogeneity.
Stored below –18 °C unopened calibration standards are stable until the expiry date which is stated on the vial labels. The reconstituted calibrator can be stored up to 1 day light protected and tightly capped at +2 to +8 °C. If the calibrator cannot be analysed within this period, it should be aliquoted and stored frozen below -18 °C (up to 3 months), except asparagine, homocystine and methionine, which are stable under these conditions up to 6 weeks.
